Nina Rosen joins ISSF Environmental Stakeholder Committee. New ESC member brings expertise in traceability, transparency, and fisheries conservation. The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nina Rosen to the Environmental Stakeholder Committee (ESC). The ESC comprises representatives from conservation organisations who voluntarily contribute expertise and independent perspectives that help inform ISSF’s science-based work in global tuna fisheries. The Committee provides advice to the ISSF Board of Directors on issues for consideration before taking action on specific sustainability efforts, including the adoption of ISSF conservation measures. Integrating genomic selection into Pacific oyster breeding programme. Australian Seafood Industries (ASI) is transitioning from traditional family-based selection to a fully operational genomic selection framework. Working in collaboration with the Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT), and the University of Tasmania, this work represents an advanced implementation of genomics in a commercial molluscan breeding programme. UK support is huge step forward for international fishing safety. The UK Government is proud to be backing the first global agreement on fishing safety. Fishing is one of the world’s most dangerous industries, and the International Maritime Organization’s Cape Town Agreement (2012) aims to improve the safety of fishers on an international scale. The agreement sets out mandatory minimum safety standards for fishing vessels, more than 24m in length, and their crew, as well as the combatting of illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing. Coalition for Fisheries Transparency and partners welcome UK ratification of IMO Cape Town Agreement. The Coalition for Fisheries Transparency (CFT) welcomes the UK’s ratification of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Cape Town Agreement, a major ocean treaty which will protect fisher safety at sea, advance fisheries transparency and help deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The UK is demonstrating its leadership by achieving Principle 8 of the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency. Peterhead Port Authority has introduced a new E-Auction system in its fish market to replace of the traditional shout-out auction. Final testing was being carried out as this publication went to press and the technology was due to go live on 31st March. Extensive training has been carried out on the system since January, and new grading standards and size grading criteria have been introduced. Scottish salmon keeps top UK export crown as India trade deal opens new £130m opportunity Scottish salmon has once again confirmed its status as the United Kingdom’s leading food export, while new trade opportunities in India could deliver a further £130 million in exports over the next decade.
